The aim of the Virtual Institute is to bring forward the solar thermal power plants based on the solar tower technology. The tree year project is supported by the Helmholtz Gemeinschaft, the State of North Rhine-Westphalia and the European Union. The Virtual Insitute of Central Receiver Power Plants (vICERP) is a consortium of five research insitutes and universities in Germany and Belgium:
- DLR Solar Research, Cologne
- FH Aachen, SIJ
- RWTH Aachen, IRT
- RWTH Aachen, IDG
- University of Leuven, OPTEC group
Key aims in the project:
- Development of an object oriented Modelica library for the transient simulation of the system
- Development of advanced control strategies using NMPC
- Perform joint research projects
- Promote the technology and support industry in the solar power plants market
- Support international scienctific exchange
